Ghostbusters Animated Series At Netflix Gets Update!

This past weekend, fans and industry professionals were in attendance at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and Market. An event that gathers together the biggest names in the sector and celebrates the creative and diverse animation styles and techniques across the field. During which, Dominique Bazay, Director of content acquisition at Netflix, took the stage to showcase a slew of new titles coming to the streaming platform in the near future! Including, Ghostbusters! During the panel, Bazay treated fans to some concept art for the new Ghostbusters animated series coming to Netflix in partnership with Sony Pictures Animation, and Flying Bark Studios.

The art work showed what's been described as a lush and gritty looking New York City. Bazay went on to say this new show is, "Ghostbusters like you've never seen it!" She goes on to explain, "Our goal is never photorealism, but something tactile and tangible." In the months before, Sony Pictures Animation put out a job search for a digital consultant that would help shape the vibe of the upcoming show. Meanwhile, in a recent tweet, Flying Bark Studios has expressed that they are honored to be continuing to develop the Ghostbusters series for Sony and Netflix.

The animated series was first announced on Ghostbusters Day in 2022, at a Sony Pictures event in California. In the two years to follow, the series has shifted into full development! Gil Kenan has since revealed he had seen a presentation for the series, including sets, environments, and "a world of supernatural characters."

Netflix has since elaborated on the direction of the series, saying, "the high end series is part of the streamer's elevated family animation line up, delivering irreverent supernatural comedy and thrilling visual spectacle!"
