Ghostbusters: Dead Man’s Chest is on shelves now and already off to a strong, snarky, slime-coated start — and is by far the best post-Frozen Empire content we’ve gotten yet! Right from page one, the comic leans into what the newer films only brushed up against — the Ghostbusters functioning as a real, boots-on-the-ground team (without the use of the Ecto-1) while they face off with a disgruntled artistic apparition. There's ghostbusting, new gear, camaraderie, and chaos. You know, the good stuff. They’re growing, stumbling, and learning.

Callie’s internal struggle is another welcome layer. She’s starting to feel the distance growing between her and the kids , a real parenthood dilemma— while Gary is out here doing his best dad-ly thing, trying to remind her this is kind of the life she wanted for her kids (referencing that Afterlife date, of course). There’s an emotional core in this comic that genuinely carries over that Reitman/Kenan family focus without getting too heavy.
And let's talk about the Zeddemore Academy! It's a really cool expansion to the Ghostbusters universe, not unlike some of the specialized schools you often see Peter Parker attending in a Spider-Man comic. We want to know more about THAT! Here’s hoping this becomes a bigger thing in future comics or even shows/films. It's got tons of potential.

Visually, the art is a big step forward for the series. Aviv Or’s style is dynamic, expressive, and totally suits the blend of action and comedy. Cris Peter’s colors bring a nice vibrancy and keep everything popping, especially when the ghosts manifest on the scene. It feels cinematic in a way that respects both the old and the new.
Bottom line? It’s funny, fast-paced, character-driven, and clearly crafted by folks like writer David M. Booher who love the franchise. If you're a Ghostbusters fan or a collector, Dead Man’s Chest is absolutely worth jumping on. It’s only a four-issue run, so don’t sleep on it — especially if you like your paranormal threats with a side of swashbuckling.
Also, Phoebe... girl, you’ve gotta pick better friends.
