"I got to act with The Keymaster himself!" - Kevin Smith This weekend has seen a slew of news and events flying out of SDCC, and while we've covered what we suspect is the bulk of Ghostbusters related updates there's still major things happening that we simply cannot overlook!
Yesterday, stars and the director of the upcoming sequel to the popular sci-fi parody, Spaceballs, took to the stage to promote the highly anticipated follow up. Meanwhile, a major cast member was noticeably absent at the Kevin Smith moderated panel- Rick Moranis!
After commanding Dark Helmet's troops to "comb" the audience for its missing cast member, Moranis was eventually literally unmasked in classic comic con fashion.

After a roaring applause and standing ovations he joined original and new members of the Spaceballs franchise on stage, explaining he was never retired! He was "just negotiating."
Following the panel, panel moderator, nerd culture icon, and seasoned director of his own successful universe, Kevin Smith took to social media to express his disbelief at the momentus return and admiration for the well missed comedy legend, Moranis. "Rick Moranis is a big fixture in my childhood because he was on one of my favorite TV shows and the star in some of my favorite flicks.", says Smith, going on to partially credit Bob and Doug McKenzie for the road that would lead to Smith's titular characters, Jay and Silent Bob.
Speaking on the gag played on the audience before the panel, Smith feels what any of us would in the excitement of playing alongside the iconic, original Ghostbusters cast member, "I got to act with the Keymaster himself!"

Moranis famously stepped away from the limelight to focus on his home life following the passing of his wife in 1991, but has continued to lend his voice to feature films on occasion. He's passed several times on similar cameo roles that he felt were forced or pointless.

In regards to the upcoming return courtesy of the upcoming Spaceballs: The New One, Moranis expressed, "The timing felt right. It felt like family coming back." Are you excited to see Rick Moranis, The Keymaster, return to the big screen next year?
